Things went pretty much as
expected in varsity basketball encounters between East Carteret and
West Carteret on Tuesday.
After blowout victories for
the Patriot boys and the lady Mariners in the teams’ first meeting of
the season Friday at East, similar results were posted in rematches at
West.
In the girls game, both teams
got off to a slow start with the lady Mariners taking an 8-2 lead after
one quarter. But it was anything but slow for the unbeaten lady Mariners
(2-0) after that as they raced to a 54-29 win.
Although the game was still
close at halftime with East leading 20-12, the lady Mariners erupted
from the locker room for a 22-4 third quarter.
East had two players scoring
in double figures, led by guards Oasis Ellison with 16 points and Logan
Lilley with 15.
The lady Patriots (1-6) were
led by Lauren Miller with 11 points.
