there was no way to stop
East Carteret
senior Logan Lilley from stealing the show during a
battle of the unbeaten between the lady Mariners and Croatan’s girls
basketball team Friday.
Lilley posted a game-high 32
points in leading her team to a 63-54 triumph over Croatan, dropping the
lady Cougars to 4-1 with their first loss of the season while East
remained unblemished at 4-0.
The lady Mariners had their most
important run of the night fall in the opening frame with a 6-0 run that
put them ahead 13-7. Croatan never recovered.
“I told them ‘Nobody beats you in
your house,’ ” said East coach Clinton Montford. “You can’t let anybody
take your food or your water from your house, and you’ve got to fight
for what you’ve got. It was a total team effort.”
