NEWPORT — One week ago East Carteret gave Croatan’s girls basketball team its only loss of the season. This Friday the lady Cougars returned the favor.

 In a game that saw Croatan rally the start of three different quarters with an unanswered scoring run, East eventually folded for its first loss, 49-43. East defeated the lady Cougars in their first meeting of the season, 63-54.

“We knew we would have to play very hard and very well to win, even here at home where we might have a home court advantage,” said Croatan first-year coach Steve Yount. “I’m proud of the way the girls responded and hung in there.”
