Rules and Procedures

Welcome to 2nd Grade

Here is all the important “stuff” you need to know to be prepared daily in 2nd grade!!

1. Grading and Assignments:

A. Grade Scale: A= Level 4/Excellent B= Level 3/Above Average  C= Level 2/Average  D= Level 1/Below Average  F= No Level/Well Below Grade Level

B. Grading Percentages:  Tests=40Classwork=30Homework=20%   Conduct/Participation=10%

C.  Homework/Behavior sheets must be signed EVERY NIGHT by a parent or adult guardian!!  Points will be deducted from the conduct grade if the sheet is not signed!!  Tests and selected assignments will be stamped Sign and Return.  These must be signed and returned the next day or points will be deducted from the conduct/participation grade!

D. Homework will be assigned Monday-Thursday night, usually in Reading, Math, Spelling, & Handwriting.  It will be due the following day unless otherwise noted.  Late homework will have points deducted at the rate of 10 points per day.

2. Rules, Discipline, and Rewards:

A.  Rules- 1. Listen and follow directions , 2. Raise your hand , 3. Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself, 4. Work quietly,  5. Keep your work space clean and neat.

B.Discipline-We will work to be our best every single day!

It feels good to follow classroom rules!  If Mrs. Laura sees you going above and beyond the classroom rules to make positive choices, you will get to move up on our clip chart!  You might also get a special reward like a punch on your Earn/Return Card, piece of candy, or ice cream at snack on Friday!

Not only do you have a chance to earn a special "thank you" from Mrs. Laura, but the whole class can earn something special too!  On Friday afternoons, we will have "free choice" time in our classroom.  During the week, your group will earn free choice minutes for working quietly and making good choices!  But... if your group begins making poor choices, you will also lose your minutes!

Classroom Clip Chart

We will be using a clip chart to monitor our choices in our classroom.  The clip chart is divided into 7 colored sections and each day you will start out on green, in the middle.   Good choices will enable you to move up on the clip chart and poor choices will cause you to move down.

Good choices mean you get to move up!  If you make it to the pink section, Outstanding!, you will get to  take a happy postcard home to your family!

If you move to the yellow level on our clip chart, you will miss ten minutes of recess to think about your choices. Moving to orange means you will miss your whole recess. Moving to red, the Parent Contact section, means you will miss your whole recess to fill out a behavior reflection to take home for mom and dad to see and sign.

Sometimes I might send you to talk to our principal, Mr. Yeomans.  I hope you will get to see him for happy reasons instead of for bad choices!  He and I can choose to deviate from this behavior system if a behavior warrants it.

C.REWARDS— Each day that a student does not have move down the clip chart, he/she gets a sticker on the Homework/Behavior Sheet.
        1) At the end of every week that all the students have a full sheet of behavior stickers/stamps, they will get a "Chain Link." When they earn 6 links, they will get a popcorn & video reward!
       2) Students will keep "Earn & Return" cards in their desks. I will punch out a space when they are caught following rules or doing something kind for a fellow student. A fully-punched card (10 spaces) will result in an ice cream/cookie treat in the cafeteria and 20 min. of extra free time in the classroom/library.

3. Supply List:
