Information about the National Museum of Natural History

The national museum of natural history is dedicated to understanding the natural world and our place in it.

They have their own web sit and if you go to the information desk it with tell you the hours it is open. Or it will give you information for tour groups. The information desk will give you highlights on the historical things they will be showing that day. They give you a phone number incase you need to call for more information. This is what the people do The Office of Education promotes lifelong learning by building connections between a diverse public and an extensive array of Museum resources. From within the Museum itself, we create learner-centered educational opportunities for students, teachers, families, and the general public. Students benefit from hands-on activities offered by volunteers in Museum exhibits. Families enjoy special weekend activities and festivities offered in conjunction with temporary and traveling exhibits. Adults take part in daily highlight tours and a weekly film-and-lecture series, which features illustrated talks by staff and visiting scientists and occasional weekend film festivals. The majority of these programs are free and open to all on a first-come, first-served basis. We develop appropriate teaching materials to accompany many of these educational programs, and keep in touch with educators through electronic newsletters, school brochures, websites, and other published sources. We reach beyond the Museum walls to deliver both formal and informal educational programs to schools, universities, and the public at large through both traditional and electronic means such as virtual fieldtrips, videoconferences, or websites. We focus in particular on providing supplementary science education programs for schools in the greater Washington D.C. region. Through it all, we work hard to promote responsible stewardship of natural resources, respect for the environment, and an appreciation of cultural and biological diversity.

The National Museum of Natural History is open every day of the year except December 25. Regular museum hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Beginning on March 24, the museum will be open until 7:30 PM on Fridays and Saturdays.
