Iwo Jima
Iwo
Jima Memorial is located near Arlington Cemetery across the Potomac River in
Washington, D.C., which is six blocks from Rosslyn Metro station.
The Iwo Jima Monument memorializes the most famous incidents in World
War II in 1944. Including all
of the men who gave their lives in defense of the United States since 1775. It is open daily, 24 hours with no admission.
The Marine Corps presents the Marine Sunset Review Parade featuring
the Drum and Bugle Corp and the Silent Drill Team. This show only takes
place on Tuesdays from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., May through August. It is
free to the public. This
monument is the largest cast-bronze statue in the world.

Petrovics sculpted the Iwo Jima Memorial Monument.
When it took three years to construct the monument in Brooklyn,
N.Y.
The cast-bronze statue weighed nearly twenty tons.
The statue consists of 32-foot-tall figures and a 60-foot-tall
flagpole. Three of the men who
raised the flag were killed before the battle was even over. Two of the figures are carrying a rifle on display.
The rifles are 12 and 16 feet long, respectively.
The entire cost of
the statue and developing the memorial site was a total of $850,000.
There were no public funds used towards the statue.
All the money came from friends of the Marine Corps, members of the
Naval Service, and United States Marines.
