Information about the National Aquarium in Baltimore 

The National Aquarium in Baltimore is a public aquarium located in the famous Inner Harbor area of Baltimore, Maryland. It was opened 1981 and receives about 1.6 million visitors a year.  Some of its more popular exhibits include: the dolphin display, rooftop rainforest, central ray pool, and multiple-story shark tanks.
            The aquarium is home to over 10,000 animals that include 615 species of fish, birds, reptiles, and marine mammals.  The main building is approximately 115,000-sq. ft. and holds over 1,000,000 gallons of fresh and salt water.  The Marine Mammal Pavilion is approximately 84,000-sq. ft. and holds up to 1.3 million gallons of fresh and saltwater.
            The aquarium is made up of three exhibit buildings.  The main building has five floors including The Amazon River Forest and the Upland Tropical Rainforest.  The Marine Mammal Pavilion is home to six Atlantic bottlenose dolphins and an exhibit called Frogs: A Chorus of Colors, which displays 10 different species of frogs.  In December of 2005, a new exhibit opened called Animal Planet’s Australia: Wild Extremes.  This exhibit is 65,400 sq. ft. and displays parts in the northern territory of Australia.
