Information about The Vietnam Wall

The Vietnam Wall memorial was an idea thought of by a person named Jan Scruggs.  Jan thought of the idea while watching a movie named "The Deer Hunter".  Jan's ideas were affective, and the Vietnam Wall was built in 1979.
Work started in March on 1979 at a set cost of $7,000,000.  58,132 men and women's names make up the wall of black granite.   All the names were grit blasted on the wall to finish the job, but in 1987 a second list of names which overlooked earlier were added to the wall.
The overall length of the wall stretches 246 feet and reaches 15 foot in height.  At the base of the wall many leave items in memory of their loved ones which the National Park Service collects so the items can be placed in a possible future museum.
