The Pentagon

The Pentagon is the national defense establishment and the center of command for all military actions.

History :

The Pentagon, the building, institution, and symbol was conceived at the request of Brigadier General Brehon B. Sommervell. The ground breaking ceremony took place on Sept. 11, 1941 and the approximate cost of the building was $83 million. The location for the Pentagon is on the old Hoover Airport, a brick factory, a pickle factory, a race track, and a low-income residential area. The land under most of the Pentagon is sand dredged from the Potomac River and supported by 41,492 concrete piles. The architectural style of the Pentagon is Stripped Neo-Classical. The Pentagon was finished on Jan. 15, 1943. Finally it was renovated in 1982 through 1990.
