The construction of the Jefferson Memorial was authorized by Congress in 1934. One
of the many things that Thomas Jefferson admired inside of the
memorial was the style, Greco-roman. Inside stands a nineteen
foot bronze statue of Thomas Jefferson along with
four of his most famous quotes. The phrases consist of
quotations from the Declaration of Independence, his ideas of
freedom, the vision in the matters of the government, and the
chief principles of his beliefs. The memorial’s construction
began in 1938.The memorial was dedicated in 1943.The white
marble structure cost three million dollars .It took about one
year to complete the memorial after Franklin D. Roosevelt
broke ground in 1938.John Russell Pope was the original
designer. He died before the completion of the
memorial.

memorial’s construction began on Nov. 15, 1938 and was
completed November 15, 1989.The memorial is located on part of
an eighteen acre lot close to the South side of the Tidal
Basin. The Tidal Basin is near the Potomac River located in
